South Asian International Film Festival Nominates Humaima For Best Lead Actress



Pakistani film actress Humaima Malik is on her way to New York to attend the first-ever South Asian Rising Star Film Awards, where she has been nominated in the Best Lead Actress category for her role in the film Bol.



The awards will be part of 9th annual South Asian International Film Festival; the largest entertainment gala related to South Asian entertainment industry organized in collaboration with HBO.

Humaima Malik will be competing with actresses like Tanishtha Chatterjee, Parineeta Chopra, Rasika Dugal and Preeti Desai in the Best Lead Actress category at the mega event which will be held on the 23th of October at GUASTAVINO’s at 1st Avenue New York.

The ceremony will be followed by the South Asian International Film Festival {SAIFF} which is in its 9th year as of 2012.

Nine categories have been announced in accordance with the 9th anniversary of SAIFF, New York for the first edition of the awards. A star studded jury includes acclaimed author and journalist, Anupama Chopra; American actress and musician, Janina Gavankar; Indian film critic, Rajeev Mansand; front-man of Goldspot and singer/songwriter, Siddhartha Khosla; and American actor, Maulik Pancholy.

Humaima has already received much acclaim and won accolades for her moving performance in Bol, at the Lux Style Award and London Asian Film Festival. She has recently been nominated at the Asia Pacific Screen Award in Best Actress category for which she would be competing with Indian actress Vidya Balan.
Humaima’s uncanny and often tear jerking portrayal of Zainab touched the hearts of millions both in the national and international community. It solidified her transition from a model to a dedicated actress with serious acting chops. Not many could have pulled off a role which required her to go an naturel alongside other well known female actresses, yet she outshone them all.

As the recipient of the Lux Style and LAFF Award, Humaima is already the crowd favorite to win at the SAIFF. All eyes are sure to be set on Humaima, who is the only Pakistani to be nominated in the category.
